Sciades seemanni Colombian Shark – Small $5.99 Hexanematichtys seemanni , also known as Arius seemanni , is commonly called the Columbian Shark. This fish has a dark, steel grey body with black fins and long whisker-like barbels on its face. Like many other “sharks” found in the aquarium trade they are actually catfish. They are very energetic and can be quite amusing when they are a small size, but that may change as they grow to a length of 14 inches or more. In the wild some have even gone over 2 feet in length. The Columbian Shark will accept most sinking food such as frozen food and pellets but should have a varied diet of both types. As they become more familiar in the home aquarium flakes may even be fed to them because they will learn to rise to the surface to accept them. An important characteristic about these fish is that they are found in brackish water environments. This would be areas where freshwater and saltwater meet and mix together. This means they will do best in a home aquarium made to their conditions as opposed to being in a freshwater only tank. Like other scaleless catfish, these fish are very sensitive to medications and are very susceptible to ick so the owner should keep a close on their fish when they are first introduced to the tank. |

Nano Rubble – 20 lb Box $133.6 Live Rock is used as a base in many saltwater reef or fish-only aquariums. Not only does it provide a more natural appearance than manufactered decorations but it also is populated by living organisms like crustaceans, algaes, and bacteria. These organisms and the minerals that make up the rock itself help to provide stability to the aquarium, give your tank residents a natural environment like that on the natural reefs, and provide a natural source of food for many marine organisms. Every type of live rock has a different appearance depending on the area it was harvested from. These different areas also mean different types of algae and organisms have populated the rock. These organisms may be dormant when received and will become more evident as the rock becomes established in your tank. Nano Live Rock is made up of several different types of live rock. As the name may suggest, these are small pieces, usually between 2 to 6 inches, that are perfect for smaller aquariums, rubble piles for fish in larger aquariums, or for in refugiums and sumps as additional bio-filtration and for food growth. Check out the video below to find out how to cure your live rock before adding it to your tank. |
